Lot of requests and questions have been raised regarding roaming, please find my blog this time about the international issues. Roaming is very versatile and sometimes complicated issue, hope you find the following usefull. Tried to write it as general language as possible.
Traditionally, Roaming is defined (cf. GSM Association Permanent Reference Document AA.39) as the ability for a cellular customer to automatically make and receive voice calls, send and receive data, or access other services, including home data services, when travelling outside the geographical coverage area of the home network, by means of using a visited network.
So, if you travel to India and use Ncell SIM there by accessing e.g. Airtel, you are roaming. At Ncell we have postpaid roaming but also prepaid roaming (also known as Camel roaming). If you are prepaid customer the number of destinations is limited to 7 countries and only limited to voice roaming. The reason for the limited offering is the fact that in prepaid, both network should have real time charging and it is not that easy to arrange when billing systems are different. If you want to have good roaming facility and in more parts of the world, have the Pro schemes (post paid/paid in advance) with Ncell: we have roaming agreement with 249 operators in 87 countries for voice roaming, and 187 operators and 67 countries for data (GPRS) roaming.
Before you travel, have enough credit at your account, minimum of 10,000 NRS per week of roaming, according to our system. If do not want to use roaming, switch off the roaming in the settings of your phone. The rules between operators have been agreed so that as the caller is not able to know the location of the receiver, the receiving party pays the international part of the call. Means: you pay. According to the tariffs of the local network; the settlement is done between Ncell and foreign operator on monthly basis. You pay us and we pay the foreign operator. The caller in home country pays normal domestic tariff. Example: you as Ncell mobile customer call to your cousin in New York having Ncell SIM roaming at AT&T mobile network. You pay our normal rate 1.99 plus tax, your cousin pays as per the roaming tariff.
If you want to use data and/or mobile internet (also called as GPRS in telecom jargon) for your emails when abroad, we recommend using public Wi-Fi networks or Wi-Fi at hotels which has a fixed fee. No roaming charges. Settings at your phone to Wi-Fi on, and data roaming off. If you want to read your emails through your mobile phone, put the data roaming on instead but be prepared to pay for charges according local operator. By the way, the beauty of the BlackBerry phone is data compression: it uses only 10% of the data compared to other phones so reading emails while roaming is handy and cost effective. But please do not start surfing in the Internet that will cost you a lot! Actually, surfing at the Internet while roaming is the single biggest reason for huge bills; people often do not realize the fact so if you have Ncell Connect with roaming facility, do not put the data card in the laptop to avoid any bills. If you need to, use with care!
We have dedicated team of Account Managers for business customers and if (hopefully) you are our Pro customer, our people are there to help and answer to your questions. Or please call Corporate Customer Care at 9007. My advice is: please, study roaming before travelling! Checklist:
· Find the roaming operators in your visit country at http://www.ncell.com.np/pro/roaming/international
· Decide if you want to use roaming or not
· Study how to change settings at your phone, do the settings before you leave Nepal
· Have enough credit at your account
· When arriving your destination country, be sure that you have desired settings at your phone
o If you are not sure, keep it shut down or be prepared to pay the billJ
· Sometimes you have to use Manual Search of the network to find the roaming operator

Pasi
Thank you for the information.
ReplyDeleteThis is not related to international roaming but i just wanted to share my experience.
I wanted to recharge my Ncell sim, I went to the local shop at Gaighat (udayapur District), i found they charging extra 5 rupees for 50/- & 100/- rupees cards and they do not have 200, 300, 500 wort cards. I said i will just pay 100 for 100 rupees card and they said they can't sell recharge @ 100/-.
I found Ncell Shop and went there to top up my sim but there was no recharge card @ NCELL SHOP and They didn't have TRANSFER facility. I was surprised by the answer. Why Ncell shop is there at Gaighat that cannot provide recharge card and transfer facility?
I think this is not just my problem lots of other Ncell subscribers are suffering from the same problem and they are forced to buy recharge cards at extra price from local shop.
I would use the sim of the visited country rather.
ReplyDeletePlease provide Ramro to Pro portability. I am too much interested in Pro scheme.
ReplyDeleteDear Pasi,
ReplyDeleteAs u have mentioned in ur previous blog 'Comparision' that
' At Ncell, the upgrade of the network
continues as was the case during the
whole year. Now we go to full Internet
Protocol, MPLS (Multiprotocol Label
Switching), to have enough capacity for
increasing traffic.'
SO WHEN NCELL HAVE ALREADY HAVE FULL INTERNET PROTOCOL AND ENOUGH CAPACITY WHY THE DATA RATE IS NOT DECREASED YET IN DATA SIM. COZ WE CONNECT USER WHEN WE USE IN LAPTOP THE DAILY USES NORMALLY CROSS 500MB. SO NCELL HAVE TO DECREASE ITS COST IN ITS DATA PACKAGES
dear pasi, today i read an article that reliance communications in india is reading to launch world's cheapest 4G tablet at Rs. 5000 with 4G lte data prices as low as Rs. 10/GB on may 2012............i was really astounded by the news. I heard ncell is also launching 4G services with speeds upto 100 mbps!!!! But when???? I hope prices would be affordable after that. Current 3G prices are very very high. Plz reduce it upto rs.50 per gb.........
ReplyDeletehy...i just wanaa tell ncell that i am using ncell connect its netwok it good but the cost is too much...plzzz plzzzz make it fair
ReplyDeletePasi,
ReplyDeleteSell recharge cards not just in ncell center and shops, reduce data rates, do some social works like free internet to the deprived. Be HERE for Nepal.
The most important things to be done by Ncell in this scenario are:
ReplyDelete1. Decrease Data tariff (at least by 50%).
2. Decrease Voice tariff (Rs 1.49/Min to all network)
3. Introduce Prepaid to Postpaid number portability service.
Dear Puru,
ReplyDeletethank you for your comment. There is Virtual Fund Transfer at about 90% of Ncell Shops, it seems that you faced one without the facility. We are constantly increasing the availability of VFT.
regards,
Pasi
For 4G, the Ministry of Communication has not yet decided the frequencies so 4G will be introduced accordingly. We applied the same last year.

dear ncell,
ReplyDeletei am from pokhara , simalchaur-8 . network signal in my area is very poor (poor voice quality and very poor gprs data).I've already informed ncell customer center more than 15-20 times or even more ,but the problem is not yet solved. Everytime i call your customer care center your
employees only give network settings and says that the problem is in your device and old fashioned. They just dont have manner to deal with the customer .They show rude manner. If this goes on you will lose your valuable customers and many more incoming customer. And the most important thing is data rate is very high almost 50% more than NTC which is not affordable for poor nepalese people. Then how can you say, "NCELL HERE FOR NEPAL????"
Ncell plz bring package of 50gb 75gb and 100gb in data sim in a resonable price. And ya ncell have to bring a change in its package rate. Its been a long time that ncell hasn't lower its price in data

I did not find any relevant place to write this so I am writing this here. Hope to get response from concerned person.
ReplyDeleteI recharged my phone (which is 3G enabled) for a total balance of Rs 5000. I wanted to subscribe to the 20GB 3G data package provided by NCELL for their NCELL Connect service. After following the procedure of subscribing to the service (sending 20000MB SMS to 9009) I get some strange error message. Later I contacted NCELL customer representative and to my dismay I find that I cannot use my SIM card that is on the phone (the normal SIM card) to subscribe to the service.
This makes no sense at all. Why cannot I subscribe to the 20GB data package and use that on my phone. Why does NCELL want me to change my SIM card and put in a data card everytime I want to use 3G and not enable 3G packages on my normal SIM card directly. This is really frustrating. I hope there is some way of enabling NCELL Connect data package to normal SIM cards also. I own 2 NCELL Connect data cards and have been very impressed by the service until now.
I am looking forward to receiving a solution to this problem. I need to use your 3G internet on my phone by subscribing to 20GB data plan. Please help.
Sorry 4 late>wish you all n only4you_happy 1'st january 2all ncell community n all 2her relative.
ReplyDeleteRespected sir,
ReplyDeleteRegarding your Data Package and Tariff plan, i would like you to check your gmail account please.
Your customer service needs to be revamped or abolished. It doesn't work - it's not even as good as NTC.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to contact custober service sine yesterday, dialing 9005 since that's the only line that's working. I am diverted to the stupid voice instruction and then forced to listen to your corporate song for eternity. I must have tried more than 30 time only to esperience the same ordeal. Is this what NCELL stands for? Is NCELL the best choice after all!
Sorry all, we have had a case of defected scratch cards for the past two weeks: our vendor in India had a failure in printing and many of you have got unfunctional top up card. This caused a huge amount of call to call center and a long waiting hours. We believe to have situation normal during next week.

Pasi
